Object - Solo Exhibition

Samantha Thompson is a professional Artist with over eighteen years’ experience. Her latest exhibition in printmaking and Linocut; a medium she has continually refined throughout her career explores the stylistic creations of Clarice Cliff. The Art Deco designs once adorning plates and pottery translates itself with an understated simplicity and elegance when recreated in Linocut.

It is this translation that has freed Cliff’s designs from the burden of purpose, allowing the art to shine unadorned by food and drink. Transforming the once functional into the newly decorative. With five years of experimentation in multimedia and printmaking Samantha’s second exhibition peaks with a collection of pieces that challenges labels in art. Juxtaposing form with function the useful with the useless.

Samantha demonstrates that great design is purposeful art, and great art is purposeless design.

On show at Unicorn Gallery  Unicorn Ln, Ballarat Central VIC, from the 1st of April to the 30th 2017
