Relationship to PLAY - Presented at the MEMO, Healsville, Vic
Play is hard to define and articulate. It is something we have all experienced in life, and comes in many forms including sport, art, imaginary worlds, and computer games. Samantha Thompson’s art practice focuses on researching play theories and questioning the importance of play in adult lives.
True play is just for the sake of it, for the fun of it. It doesn’t have agendas and is not a commodity.
Delight, adventure, and surprise are elements of play Samantha draws on in this body of work that is textile based, big and sculptural in nature. Her large bold monoprints explore play and relationships and bodies therein. The colour pops attempt to evoke childhood fun and invite the audience to consider their own playfulness. Come play and find joy in this immersive exhibition.
